Overview

This version of the American Airlines Airbus A319 aircraft seats 128 passengers and is primarily used on Domestic routes. This next-generation aircraft features a First Class cabin outfitted with 8 recliner seats in a 2-2 configuration. In the Main Cabin, the seats are arranged in a 3-3 configuration. The option to enjoy more legroom is available with 24 Main Cabin Extra seats and the aircraft also offers 96 standard Economy Class-style seats. Inflight entertainment is provided through a seat back inflight entertainment monitor or your personal portable devices, depending on which A319 you are on.

I have flown this A319 a couple of times. One of the few American planes that seem to maintain a decent time table and not get delayed. 14A was for the most part comfortable, there is not a left arm rest that is reachable. There were personal TVs on my plane, that worked great. The plane was very quite too. Seat had pretty good cushion, I would fly this over most regional jets and any of the 737s. Bathrooms are pretty decent size too.

When AA introduced the A319 a few years ago, with the monitors I the seats, they were truly awful--like being wedged in a coffin. Monitors are no more, but the 30" inch pitch is very uncomfortable for someone 6-3 with arthritic knees. Don't ask AA the take a row out, not in these days of nickeling and diming you for everything imaginable. A321s are much better.

Truly terrible seat. The bulkhead panel is straight from the floor to the ceiling - no bend in the panel for leg room. But the panel separating the tiny first-class section to the premier-economy section has a bend to allow an extra foot of leg-room. The 8D bulkhead seat is actually a better seat than the 1D. I was upgraded to 1D and I sat in the seat and found even less leg room than in the back of the bus. I gave up that seat and returned to my previously assigned seat, 10D. It was a much better experience. Maybe a tiny person would like 1D but anyone with regular-sized legs would be infuriated to have paid extra for this seat.

There is no room for your legs. My son's legs touched the seat in front. It is so tight you cannot reach down and access your bag under the seat in front of you. THis is a total safety hazard.

Worst seats in aplane You do not have any space ..I am 5'3" and my knees were touching the seat in the front, in my way back i upgrade the seat to Extra cabin and I was confortable, but main cabin it is imposible to fly more than 1 hour !!!

So you want to have the most cramped uncomfortable ride anywhere? Then book on American Airlines and fly on this plane. You won't be disappointed. I booked this flight from Barbados to Charlotte. I'm 5'8" and usually don't have a problem even in standard coach. I couldn't even open my laptop without they keyboard in my belly and straining my neck to see the screen because the person in front of me had their seat back (So Did I). The problem with AA is they are trying to make more money and expecting customers to live with their actions. Speak with your pocket book folks!! I'm a Diamond on Delta, was thinking about doing a challenge on AA but after this flight home from Barbados and the flight from home to Barbados on American Airlines I can honestly say I'll never fly American Airlines again, and If they are the only carrier to get where I need to go I'll be cancelling my trip.

7:30PM departure from MIA to SFO. Not lie flat/pod seats, just basic domestic first class seats. They do not have Bose/high quality headsets for the entertainment system, which is pretty weak considering the shift to bluetooth.

This was the most cramped seat I have ever been in by far. A total joke...I will NEVER fly in this airplane again. Packed in like sardines, forget picking anything up off the ground, forget putting anything other than a phone in the pouch on the back of the seat in front of you. Try to put an IPAD in that pouch? Forget it! I repeat, this is by far thee worst seating I have ever encountered.

I fly on this plane from Miami to Manaus, Brazil frequently. There is really no comfort on this plane, anywhere! If you can avoid it. Otherwise, this first row of the First/Business Class cabin for me works better than the second row. I put my roll-on case in front of me, so my feet and legs have a nice place to rest and they are not just hanging there for 5 hours.

I found the foot space was very adequate, and I am a large person. The seat was wide enough for me and I was pretty comfortable. I had to bring my own seatbelt extender as AA didn't have one.

Be aware that there are two versions of the A319: the ones ordered by AA before their merger with US Airways have IFE screens and an AC outlet between the Y seats. All AA A319s have identical layout and seats, but the planes ordered by US Airways before the merger lack IFE and AC power outlets. I don't know how to tell which one you'll get prior to departure other than the AA-bought planes have swept-up winglets and the US ones have small bladed ones that extend above and below the wings.

This was a flight from las vegas to philadelphia. The seat is listed as an exit row seat. Its actually just a normal isle seat but it feels better because the window seat has no seat in front of it. It just opens up the row a bit. The plane is that new version with a bathroom by the exit row. No tv

This first class seat is just fine. I would much rather bring my own device than stare at a tiny airline screen. BTW, my iPad case hangs perfectly in the upper magazine slot, yet, i can move it anywhere i desire. There IS a power outlet - in the center console storage. Best power arrangement as can have plugged in device during takeoff/landing w/o cords blocking egress. An efficient layout

I was pleasantly surprised by the comfort of this seat. It was a little wider than a comparable seat on a 737, enough wider that it made a real difference in my comfort. I also had plenty of legroom. I will be seeking out this aircraft for future flights.

1-F is very pleasant. The small 1st class seems to have enough overhead space, even if full, as you board first, extra bags can go above the first rows of coach and someone will hand them to you. Leg room just OK but I can nap just fine in this seat.

When AA introduced the A319 a few years ago I thought it was horrible and said so on this site. They have been reconfigured with the same comfortable seats found in the latest A321s and are lights years better. I am 6-3, and even at 31" inch pitch they are satisfactory. I sprung for MCE on this flight and it was the most comfortable coach ride I have had in years. There is ample foot room and the seat back is high enough that it does not hit me in the middle of my neck like the MD80s when trying to recline. Seat engineers did a good job on these, thanks, AA.

I found this seat to have restricted legroom compared to row 2 because, it's a bulkhead seat, but it reclined unlike row 2 seats. Overhead storage bin was usable for this row.

This is an updated aircraft which has a IFE in every seatback - welcome surprise. Even in premium economy leg space is somewhat limited, if you have a bag under the seat, due to power unit for the IFE. No bag and you can stretch reasonably well, I'm 5'10 Seat is comfy and decent for a 3hr flight

I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of leg room in my seat. Even with my (packed to the gills) back pack under the seat in front of me I had plenty of room for my legs. Loved that there was an outlet built into the seats in front of me. Flight crew was kind and courteous.

IND-PHX There were no personal screens on this aircraft. There was a few movies/TV shows available to stream and stated as free but we could never get connected. Updated interior with leather seats, plane was clean and service good. Tight squeeze in row 24. We sat in MCE on our way back to Indy (row 9 flight 500)no screens again but much better seats. There appears to be a partition between each window on this aircraft so you kinda have two windows per row but they don't exactly align. All in all, good flights.

The legroom in the bulkhead is more limited in the newly retrofitted planes. (Or are they new?) The wall at the bulkhead is straight from ceiling to floor--formerly it angled out slightly allowing more leg room. There is another version of the A319, which are the ex-US Airways that have been reconfigured with the same seating but no IFE. There were also only 2 power outlets. I believe most LAX-YYZ flights are flown with this non-IFE configuration. It had gogo-inflight though. Still highly uncomfortable and very limited pitch for a coast to coast flight.

Flew GCM-MIA. Seat pitch is miserable, and IFE box under the seat further reduces leg room. Seat itself was reasonably comfortable for a short hop. IFE is nice, but personally I'd prefer to lose it altogether in exchange for another couple inches of seat pitch so my knees wouldn't have to be in contact with the seat in front of me. If you are over six feet tall, I recommend avoiding this aircraft unless you are in first, MCE, or emergency exit row.

I flew on this plane just last month and AA recommended 14D. This was a newly renovated ex-US A319 which has the same seat setup and features as the legacy AA A319, minus the seatback TV. It was an averave flight, we were delayed an hour due to bad weather. It was a good thing they recommended this seat cause it was very roomy, especially cause I usually book legroom upgrades when I fly. I'm guessing probably a full 6" more pitch since MCE seats in exit rows always have about 6" more seat pitch. Contrary to this seat map, the tray table in this row is not in the armrest but in the seat in front of you, which does not impede the seat width. The seat itself is the same B/E Pinnacle slimline seat that United is using on their newly renovated 737's. The flight itself was kinda bumpy, but still enjoyable from the extra legroom.

You should note that personal on demand ife is not available on all A-319's with 8F seats. I've been on legacy AA A-319's and they offer personal ife screens at every seat. The redone legacy US-Air A-319 with 8 first class seats that I was on had the same seat layout, power, wifi etc as the original AA planes but they don't offer personal ife screens in coach or first.

I was in a bulkhead row, labeled Main Cabin Extra. Overall, a seat and plane to be avoided. Using this plane for a five hour flight from YYZ to LAX is abusive. My seat was thinly padded and uncomfortable with the first class curtain slapping against my legs throughout the flight. I also observed others sitting extremely uncomfortably in coach with their 30" pitch. Unless you can get rows 9 or 10 in coach, just avoid the plane.

I flew on an ex-US Airways A319 from LAX-MCI that had the interior upgraded to this layout. New leather seats matching the American scheme, but no television in the seat backs. The seats were the same slimline they are now using without the screens. MCE is the only way I would get on one of these new Airbus, the other seats are ridiculously tight.

I have flown on this aircraft four times with AA. Twice is First Class and twice in Coach. My general comment is to avoid this aircraft it you have any other options. The seats in First Class should not be considered Business/First Class. They are very uncomfortable and there is not a lot of leg room. The coach seats are are even worse. They are hard with little leg room. I am 6'1" 240. I could hardly walk after flying on this aircraft. I would only recommend flying on this aircraft if the flight time is only an hour to an hour and a half.

I sat in 10F on a flight from PHX-MCI. Despite this plane being nearly 15 years old, the interior and seat were in great condition. The window lenses were a bit scratched up, but it didn't affect the ability to see clearly. This is a Main Cabin Extra seat, and therefore has significantly more leg room that the standard economy class seat. I have uploaded pictures to show the leg room. I am only 5'6", so leg room typically is not an issue, but I was able to upgrade to MCE for free, so I thought I would try it out.

What terrible news this is the "flagship" or American (if indeed it is). First Class is OK, but only 8 seats, meaning even Exec Platinums rarely get upgrades. Coach seats are awful. Recline is the least I've ever experienced, except for Spirit, which has no recline. The seats recline about 1 inch. The backs are thin and hard and shaped wrong...no support. And there's no IFE! Only positive comment is Exit Row seats have great legroom. But that doesn't make the seat comfortable. Don't, repeat don't book on this plane if you can avoid it...unless you can get into First Class (which BTW is really like Premium Economy).

All negative comments are correct. I had 4 segments on this "new" airbus 319, 1 in "first" and 3 in coach. First is comparable to premium economy in better INT carriers like Cathay, but legroom is fair. However in coach/cattle class the seats are the worst I've ever experienced (even worse then Spirit airlines if that is possible). I am 6'1 185lbs and I sat Aisle, middle and window and all were terrible - window being the worst, most narrow and the electical box in front. Even on a 1.5 hour flight my back and knees were sore and many others in the flight were complaining of the same problems. This is 3 steps backward for passenger comfort, whoever green-lit this design should lose their employment at AA. If the fares were 75% discounted to similar routes, I could understand but they aren't.

I read the scathing comments on this plane before my ATL -> LAX trip and was seriously dreading it based on the negativity. However, I was pleasantly surprised - the IFE boxes below the seats were not as intrusive as I was expecting based on the reviews, so I had plenty of legroom (note: I'm 5'5"). And my son was able to play on his laptop without feeling like it was in his face sitting on the tray table. Our row did not recline due to being directly in front of the exit row, but it wasn't bad. All in all, a much better flight than I anticipated. Crew were extremely friendly to boot.

14A is an very good exit row/Main Cabin Extra seat with a seat pitch in excess of the other MCE seats and more legroom than 1st class on the LUS A319 layout (which I flew on my outbound leg). This new layout thankfully has power outlets (only 2 per row though). I couldn't find the USB outlets though. The leg room is a little cramped in 14A (and all economy window seats I believe) due to presence of a small electrical box which makes storing a larger bad underneath the seat problematic. If you want maximum under seat storage space and lots of leg room, take the exit row middle seat. Overall seat comfort of these new "slim line" seats isn't great for a long distance trip (mine was 4.5 hrs) but should be fine for less and 2 hours.

This is the first row of economy. Our party of 6 reserved it. I find that it's in the best location of the cabin. There is lots of space, however the legroom is just a tiny bit less than in the other MCE seats behind this row. I'm 5 foot 7 inches, I could stretch my feet out with no problem and I could get out without the other people in this row gettin gout of their seats. Of course absoutely fantastic service on American and they did a great job with the IFE and power!

I'm only 5'6" tall and felt really crammed in this seat. There is very little space between your seat and the one in front of you. The electronics boxes also cut down on the space underneath the seat in front of you. I really had to do a contortion act to get my things into and out of this space. I've flown on A319s previously with other airlines and not had these issues. This is pretty ridiculous. I can't recommend this plane to anyone. Avoid it if you can.

The seat width of 17.7" is like a straitjacket, even with the extra legroom in MCE. It's intolerable for a 4 hr. plus international flight (DFW to Panama City). Also, the seats and backs are thinly padded, less comfortable than the 1 hour Embraer commuter flight on Copa from PTY to David City. I won't fly on an A319 again.

I do not agree this is a standard MCE seat. MCE feels noticeably smaller on this aircraft. Even before the person in front of me reclined, I could not open my laptop on the tray table. I was ironically reminded of the AA promotional video wherein the space in front of the woman expands and she opens her laptop. No way she'd open that laptop on this plane. The comment about there being only 8 seats in First is also true. I am Exec Plat and was fourth on the upgrade list (obviously didn't get it). I will avoid this aircraft in future.

I am a Gold/Platinum status flyer since 2004. This was the most cramped leg room I have ever experienced on a flight. Even the small CRJs have more leg room. My knees were crammed into the seat in front of me and I'm only 5'7". The US Airways configuration for this plane is roomy compared to this crazy configuration. I suggest avoiding this plane all together. I am not impressed with this plane. I would happily give up the entertainment to have pain-free knees!!

At 6'6" we paid to ensure we could get exit row seating (AA Gold get half off) and I can't imagine flying in the other sardinelike seating. A tall person will find it impossible to sleep or even sit fully back in the short-backed seats. The headrest has limited adjustments but even on this very new plane they would already fall right back down the moment you no longer apply pressure. Leg room in the exit row is plentiful, fortunately. This plane only has two restrooms for coach, all the way in the back, to service 100 pax. The lav in first class, which services all of eight people, is guarded to keep the riff-raff out. There's very little room back there to stand and the crew don't like you invading their space, and do their darndest to stay back there as long as possible. The entertainment system is basically useless because you have to pay for almost anything offered (and bring your earbuds or pay another $5 for those). Onboard wifi is also ridiculously expensive at over $20 for the flight. Guy next to me used his cell phone for his wireless, which I think is still against the rules. There is no doubt the design of this interior is more about the Benjamins than the customer. I miss my old MD-80s. With only 8 seats in first, you can forget about scoring an upgrade unless you're Exec Plat, too (not that it was easy otherwise before).

I agree with others' comments about the seating discomfort on this plane, and would add that the "entertainment unit" storage subtracts foot room on all seats, including aisle seats. Even the "main cabin extra" seat that I had (which did not recline, due to mechanical error). Compared to the soon to be departed MD80s, these seats are narrower, and have 1" less legroom in main economy and 1"-3" less legroom in main cabin extra. Too bad these are the "new standard."

My wife and I flew from Miami to Belize on 7/14 and were sitting in seats 2D & 2F. For what are essentially domestic first class seats we found these seats to be very comfortable and the whole flight experience to be very good. The IFE is very similar to the one found in the new 777-300ER, which is a great system. We had friends in 9D & 9F and they also had no complaints about the seats in MCE. I would be happy to fly this plane on pretty much any domestic route.

I couldn't believe how uncomfortable these seats are. We live in Cayman and fly to Miami via AA 5+ times per year but this was our first flight on this new plane and we will do everything we can to avoid a repeat in the future. I was in a window and there wasn't enough room to store my purse with the box there, nonetheless my legs. I'm 5'9" and my husband, who was in the middle, is 6', and we were both miserable on this flight. We both have had back surgery, and sitting feeling like you're pitched forward with zero lumbar or cushion support is awful even for a short flight. I cannot imagine flying long haul on it, but I would pay double for another airline with better seats. It's sad because we generally like AA even though most don't, but this plane (even for a 1 hour flight) is just ridiculously bad. Luckily no one reclined into me, but if they had I probably would have come close to a panic attack because it was already way too tight in the seat. Skip this plane if at all possible, especially if your flight is lengthy.

If you are taller than 5' 10" or have an inseam longer than 30 this is without a doubt the most uncomfortable seat you could find. The headrest would not stay up, recline was limited and the window seat is noticeably several inches thinner than the middle or aisle seats. Add the entertainment box crammed under there and you have discomfort awaiting. Had to wiggle in sideways or press my knees against the seat in front of me (until they reclined...

Flew on this plane from Dallas to Lubbock yesterday 3/30/15. Sat in 2F not a very comfortable seat. I would not fly on this type of plane on a flight longer than 1 hour. Seat was miserable seat cushion paper thin. Service was good and entertainment screen was fine with many options. MD-80's much more comfortable.

On winter 2013-2014, I flew BOG-DFW-ORD and return... I thought this AA's improvement was going to satisfy me, but no! This plane was extremely uncomfortable for a 5+ hr overnight flight. Seats are narrow, the plane feels really cramped, I couldn't even stretch my legs (I'm 6 ft tall)... Besides that, the returning flight was delayed for more than 15 hours at DFW, and flying this plane after waiting that time was like a nightmare (For this leg, I decided to pay more to travel on Main Cabin Extra, and at least I could stretch my legs)... I found out MD 80's domestic-used planes were more comfortable than A319 ones... Despite the fact that DFW airport is really easy to navigate for international passengers, I'll try to avoid this plane overall the next time I travel to the US Suggestion: If you can't avoid flying this plane, don't choose a window seat! Instead of that, choose an aisle one, even if you have to pay more for that...

As another has mentioned, the seat is itself is fine. It is no different than the ones Delta and United are using to reconfigure in there economy section. It is the placement of the entertainment box in the window and middle seats that forces you to angle your feet in order to maximize your legroom. My advice is to pick the aisle seat (pay extra if you have to). I am 5'10 and no, my knees were not touching the seat in front of me.

I could not get my small water in the seat pocket, had to fold my tray table down to get the safety instructions out of the plastic back of the seat in from of me! Again, all the comments about this plane are accurate. I was in a standard coach seat and was watching the video screen. When the passenger in front of me reclined, the screen was so close I could not focus on it. I ended up just turning it off. And of course there was no where near enough room for a laptop. I'm Exec Plat with AA so obviously I'm on many of their planes. This was the most miserable by far. Now when I fly DFW YYZ, I connect in ORD or LGA just to avoid this plane. My most recent ticket was about $100 more than the non-stop but I willingly paid it.

LAX-DFW-BOG return and worst flights ever. Pitch is stupidly small. I'm 6 3 and even before I tried to recline I could only just get my shins under the bottom of the seat in front. Recline is a couple of inches and the seat tilts up and there goes any thought of legs extending. To avoid jamming my knees against the reclined seat in front I end up sitting sideways. For 5 hours. I aould go out of my way to avoid the A319 as flown by AA.

AA got this plane layout totally wrong - I purchased a First Class seat and while the FE screen was nice the seat pitch is less than the old MD80. I flew another flight in coach and thankfully only a 2 hour flight - horrible seats. It is a sad fact that I prefer the old MD80 to this aircraft - shame on AA for putting out this as an "improvement". The MD80 has a first class to economy ratio of @1-8 giving a FF a chance of an upgrade. The "new and improved" A319 has a ratio of @1-14 nearly twice as bad. I will avoid this aircraft at all costs

These seats are miserable as the entertainment boxes take up so much of the leg room as to be nonexistent if you put your purse below. The box for the window seats take up so much room that you sit at an angle and there is no room for even a medium sized purse. Shame on you American Airlines for thinking this is great customer service. I would like all of the AA executives to fly in these miserable seats.

I was honestly excited to hear AA was adding the Airbus to their fleet. That excitement was short lived. This is honestly the WORST airplane I've ever been on. The seating configuration is terrible, the seats are uncomfortable, there is no space in the seat back pocket to even place a bottle of water. It's sad that I prefer the old MD80 to the 319. AVOID this aircraft at all costs.

All first class seats should be marked at least yellow. The recline is terrible in both rows. In row 1 the bulkhead is so close that I could come nowhere close to stretching out my legs (average height male). If you are a corporate travel professional, demand AA grant lower rates for these seats they are not "first class" by any measure.

This was a First Class seat. In this new Premium Cabin environment, the seat backs are lower and narrower, so every word the passengers in front of or behind you say interrupts your thoughts, concentration and/or conversation with the person sitting next to you. A case in point is that the passenger in front of me has shaken the ice in his scotch THE ENTIRE FLIGHT and I've HEARD it THE ENTIRE FLIGHT. The tray tables are too small and sit too close to your body. The seat in front of you lays back into your space. My laptop could not be opened fully when the seat in front of me was reclined. There's only a thin wall between First and Coach which is not even sealed off at the walls, so the light from the window behind in Coach comes through, interfering with the video screen in the seat back in front of me and there is little physical barricade to the noise from the first row in Coach (considerable on my particular flight). The lack of storage for the in-flight blanket meant it either ended up on the floor or under my arm. As much as AA needed to upgrade it's equipment and replace its S80s, this was a poorly thought out aircraft from the passenger's perspective. It's nice to have seat back enterrainment, but other than that and the "new car smell", this is a very uncomfortable and cramped aircraft and whenever possible I avoid flyingit.

Every single one of the reviews here is dead on accurate. American must have consulted Ryanair before they configured the seats here. 30" seat pitch is ridiculous. The curvature of the seats does absolutely allow for more cattle to be placed in steerage but I can't hardly even see my laptop as I write this review based on how I have to have it cranked. The plane itself is new and quiet but that's about it. Avoid this at all costs unless you're in 1st or an exit row. I'd fly a 15 year old ERJ-135 before I'd fly this again.

I had the misfortune of flying an A319 from Dallas to Huntsville. The seats have been reconfigured to thin the lower portion of the seat in front, to allow your seat to be jammed even closer. The seat pocket and tray table have been moved up, consuming the volume in front of your face. You are so close to the seat in front of you that you cannot hold or read a magazine. The lower corner of the seat in front is so low that you cannot put your feet under the seat without bruising your chins, if there were even space to do it, as that volume has been used up by the entertainment equipment, of which 2 of the 3 on my row did not work. (The privacy screen prevents knowing how many others did not work) The tray table is double hinged because there is not sufficient room for it. The plane is so claustrophobic that people are having panic attacks in it. Watch the news. I am 6 ft, 190 lbs. I travel for business and had to buy a first class upgrade, out of pocket, for the return flight. Never again will I fly an AA A319. I complained to AA and was told this is their Flagship!!!

These seats have virtually no storage in the seat back pocket and if you stow anything under the seat you will have no legroom. The seats are so close together that it is very difficult to access anything under the seats if the seat ahead is reclined.

Flew in MCE from DFW to Bogota. As someone who usually sits in front, but this time sat in back as I had my kids, I found the seat extremely comfortable, with decent leg room and great entertainment. I'd take this over a S80 any day of the week. Kids loved the shows and games and we had excellent service for a long (5 1/2 hour) flight. Overall - very satisfied with the new A319 -- great aircraft!

I try to avoid the 319 as much as I can although as they retire the MD80's it will become more difficult to do so. I am average height - 5'9" and sitting in 14A was the most uncomfortable I have been in years. The window exit actually curves into your space slightly as well as having the curvature of the cabin reduce your shoulder and head room. I was sat next to a big guy who was miserable and who could not help but have his shoulders against mine, consequently I spent 2.5 hours crammed up against the wall. I am an Executive Platinum and I will go out of my way to avoid this equipment.

I've flown a lot of Airbus equipment before, including the A319, and have found them comfortable enough. But that was before my first trip on an AA configured A319. The arm rests cannot be raised on any economy aisle/window seats in the plane. Most airlines give some flexibility to relieve crowding by raising an arm rest. But not this monstrosity. Ditto to the comments of other guru's regarding narrowness and tightness of seats in the back.

Exit row seats are reasonably comfortable compared to other economy seats. Actually had room to cross my legs. Not as claustrophobic as the rest of economy. On a later flight I sat in 14C and noticed it was not as wide as 14A since exit row seats have non-moveable armrests. I normally like the aisle but will choose exit row window seats on this aircraft. I did like having both AC & USB power at every seat.

I was very disappointed in overall cabin configuration for the following reasons: 1. In typical Airbus fashion the entertainment system occupies significant space under seats A, B, E, and F. This prevented underseat storage of my small computer bag which fits fine elsewhere, even Regional Jets. This necessitated storage in the overhead bin. Multiply this by the number of pax in similar situation and it places great and unnecessary demands on overhead storage. Furthermore, the configuration resulted in very tight and uncomfortable legroom with my right leg frequently pressing uncomfortably against the metal box under the seat. 2. The pitch between seats was too small, I'm 6ft 1in and my knees were pressing against the seat most of the flight. My face was barely 15 inches from the seat in front of me. Also, seat cushions are too thin. 3. The entertainment system didn't work (reported to cabin staff) - why even have it on aircraft operating short domestic flights? Remove it and retrieve under seat space, reduce weight and maintenance costs. 4. Only 1 overwing emergency exit? While it may pass FAA evacuation tests, I question whether it will be effective with panicky pax unfamiliar with emergency procedures as well as cluttered and tight seat rows.

Probably the worst seat on the worst airline I've ever ridden. Absolutely no room. Tray table the size of a business letter envelope. No way to use a notebook or read or do anything else but watch video. Zero room for feet or any small item under seat. (Not that you could reach down there anyway). Video screen and magazine rack directly in front of your face. I'll find another carrier or drive before getting on another of those disgusting birds.

The Airbus 319A is an absolute joke. I am 6'2", 175 lbs. and I have never been more uncomfortable on an airplane in my life. I could not put my legs under the seat in front of me. In fact, it wasn't even close. The seats are so close together that when I tried to extend my legs, my shins hit the bottom of the seat in front of me. Not that there was any room for them under the seat anyway given the "entertainment box." What kind of an idiot designs a plane with a box located under the seat? When the person in front of me reclined, I nearly came unglued. I literally felt like seat back was 8" from my face. As I was sitting there, I kept asking myself whether anyone from AA actually sat in the coach section before they decided to purchase/lease the 319A. The sad thing is I know they did--and that they just don't care at all about the comfort of their customers. I will do my best to never fly AA again. EVER.

Extremely limited recline, tray table is very tight - does not push away from the body as it does on the MD80, though the bulkhead is not particularly close or restrictive (and I'm 6'3). Personal video screen is nice but controls not intuitive and wired remote that nests in the armrest gets tangled.

Video equipment under seats reduces the under-seat space significantly in terms of width. In the window seat I was in, it was further reduced by the curvature of the aircraft cutting in. 30" of seat pitch is awfully tight, even by the latest standards. The plane is wonderful and new, but they've got you crammed in so tight, it would be hard for me to imagine being crammed in here for longer than the 1 hour flight I was on. The tray tables are very shallow, impossible to put a laptop on them of any decent size. I'm 5'5" tall and I felt cramped. Other airlines A319's are far easier to handle.

Explat flyer lucky enough to get a seat upfront but the seat pitch was laughable and only 4 seats. Come on AA you know this config is your bread and butter business flight yet only two rows for your best customers. Shame shame. But thank goodness we have choices. theres no reason to fly AA if your loyalty is based on getting upgraded with only two rows your chances just went from remote to very very remote.

This was the worst seating experience since flying AirTran years ago. I literally could not fully open my laptop with the seat in front "upright". Even the seat back pocket is so small, you can't fit a hardback book in it. First class has fewer seats, so good luck getting an upgrade if you aren't Exec Plat. Avoid this equipment at all costs.

Without question, the most uncomfortable coach seat I've ever been in. I couldn't even get my feet under the seat in front of me for a little relief, because the bottom of the seat was so close it hit me in the middle of my shin. The shape of the seat allows them to cram the rows tighter together while technically leaving the pitch unchanged, but the reality is that it's the tightest coach I've ever been in. Even United's standard economy isn't this bad. Unless you're in first class, avoid this aircraft at all costs. The MD-80 I came in on was much, much more comfortable.

Unbelievably cramped. I'm just over 6 feet tall and it is the most uncomfortable seat I've been in - and that's before the seat in front of you is reclined. If that happens the amount of space you are left with is comical. The video screen doesn't tilt to accommodate the fact that, with the seat in front reclined, the line of sight is almost below your chin. When designing the seating layout of this craft there was only one priority: revenue generation.

Tray tables are more narrow on this new plane than older planes. Can't fit a laptop and a drink. Seat pockets won't hold a drink either. Row 11 is first row that is NOT Main Cabin Extra, and it has very little room for a laptop between new seat back screens and less legroom.
