Overview

Malaysia Airlines Airbus A380 operates flights from Kuala Lumpur to London. The Airbus A380 is replacing the Boeing 777 used on this route, not only substantially boosting the number of seats (from the 777's 282 seats to the A380's 494 seats) but also introducing MAS first class to the routes.

Malaysia Airlines has fitted its A380s in a typical three-class layout accommodating 494 passengers in: 8 open suite First Class seats, 66 flat bed Business Class seats and 420 standard Economy Class seats.

The First Class seats are located in the main deck with a 1-2-1 seat formation. The First Class has a total of 8 seats with enclosed monument (4 individual seats and 2 double seats). The seats have a pitch of 89 inches and are convertible into a full flat bed of 87 inches length and a width of 40 inches. Each seat also boasts an individual 23-inch in-flight entertainment screen with personal closet and stowage for coat, luggage, laptop and personal belongings. A granite coktail table is located at the center armrest. All seats are equipped with 115VAC PED power supply and USB port.

The Business Class seats are located in the upper deck with a 2-2-2 seat formation. The Business Class has a total of 66 seats (33 double assembly), convertible into a full flat bed with a length of 72 inches and a width of 74 inches. Although these seats are technically flat-beds, some users have reported that they do not feel like true flat-beds because the foot rests don't elevate completely, leaving your feet at an angle. Each seat also boasts an individual 17-inch in-flight entertainment screen, seatback mounted, and personal items stowage. All seats are equipped with 115VAC PED power supply and USB port.

The Economy Class seats are in a formation of 2-4-2 on the Upper Deck and 3-4-3 on the Main Deck. The Economy Class seats have a total of 420 seats with individual 10.6-inch IFE wide screen, seatback mounted. The seats recline 6 inches and have a 32-inch pitch and 18-inch in-seat width. All seats are equipped with 115VAC PED power supply and USB port.

74K does require an additional fee but pretty small and seat as good as aisle 73 that costs more. Nothing impedes your leg stretch, you can exit without disturbing the passengers next to or in front of you whenever the desire takes you. Really good option

Flight from Kuala Lumpur to Heathrow. Several seats/customers unable to work entertainment screens on the upper deck of economy, including my wife and self. They were not working and not sure if they were a known problem before take off. 14 hour flight without any distraction - it was hell as there were babies nearby crying. Seats were frayed - probably an old plane. Also out of 3 toilets on the back of economy only 1 was in service! Plane took of from KL in that sorry state.

Economy on upper deck is much better than lower deck. Boarding with the business class passenger. Cabin is smaller so you easily call the cabin crews for any help. Meal serving would be quick. Lavatory is always vacant.

Be aware that seats 42 to 44, which are located alonside the galley, are slightly narrower than the othe economy seats. I believe this is because to allow for the aisle space along the galley, the narrower seats have been installed.

Excellent seat - spacious and comfortable for someone who's 5'11 and a little on the large side. Bed was comfortable and slept like a baby! Food and service were excellent also. Great seat, great service, excellent flight. Only thing I didn't like (it's an A380 thing) is the slightly upward facing windows. Overall, excellent seat.

MAS ran a limited A380 service to Seoul ICN during Sept17. Upper deck economy was worth all of the USD25 (RM100) extra. The back stairs were blocked so that passengers from the lower deck cannot stray upwards. The seats felt wider than 18 inch, and the pitch looked more like 34inches. It has a feel of Premium Economy. The load was light on this flight, 9 adults for a 70 pax section. Service was "business-class" like. This aircraft does show a little wear, like non-functioning IFE remote, and seats that recline without the need to press the 'side button'. Slight issue with the side compartment on the upper deck. The windows are at a distance from the seat edge due to the curvature of the cabin. Every time you try to stretch to peer out the window, your elbow will inherently press onto the compartment lid and it'll open, bit annoying, and you'll remember to keep your elbow on the hand rest

An old fashioned seating layout of 2:2:2 does get more people into business class but does remove some of the herring bone 1:2:1 layout advantages, eg, clambering over someone else to get to the loo, flight crew working across someone for meals etc. The window seat has the advantage of extra side storage. Being 188cms tall, I found the seat lacking in length as a bed. Noise reducing headphones would be an advantage. The front toilets are massive, you could have a party in them!!!

The proximity to the galley with this seat is definitely a major problem. Not only is noise/light from the galley bothersome, the passenger in this seat also finds that the galley curtain brushes against them every time crew members enter or leave the galley.

The usable lie flat seat length here is around 5ft 10. Im 6 ft and i could not lie flat. The foot of the bed goes into a small recess in the back of the chair in front but adult feet do not fit in the small gap unless twisted sideways which is not comfortable. A compromise of lowering the foot rest makes it just work but I recommend taking a bulkhead seat, I had no length problem there

6A is a great seat, great location. Superior leg-room. It is also close to the larger, front toilets as well as to the snack area. However, the seat has an excessive number of controls, and, as a bed, it is lumpy with hard edges. I made the mistake of not using the mattress cover and found it difficult to find a smooth place to lie still. Given all the superior products our there, I was disappointed at the seat as a bed. On the return flight, to accommodate and mother and child, I volunteered to move to 9A. Not as nice a location as the loo is immediately in front and is the bulkhead wall. The galley is also immediately adjacent which creates a lot of commotion in the larger, rear business-class cabin. Definitely prefer row 6.

Seat was fine my biggest problem was that 13 hours flight was freezing cold, because of the AC.I was freezing and became incredibly sick with high fever during my first 3 days of my holiday.I was wearing a sleeveless shirt a long sleeve shirt a cardigan my bf hoodie and 2 blankets from the plane and still freezing. So I suggest to have something warm with you in your cabbin laguage just in case.

Seat's was very comfortable & worked quite well but as I am tall the foot rest was of no use as my feet overhang & this was quite uncomfortable when trying to sleep.. Bedding was also adequate. IFE was also good with lots of choices. Food was also good with a good menu choice. Excellent wine list. I do like the 'Dine Anytime' option. Staff were attentive.

Good positioned in the back, average comfort for economy. The flight is OK, not the same standard as Emirates but we had a very good price for it. Entertainment is so so, the food was good, the selection for drinks is slim but the wine was good. The staff is polite and professional, the plane shows the wear and tear but for a good price it is a good choice.

Love the upstairs Economy section on MA A380. Done two return trips so far. Premium of $50 is well worth it. We are travelling again next week in seats 40A and 40C. Marked as red but they looked fine the last time we travelled.

Quality of food and service has markedly deteriorated since I last travelled to London in 2014. Wear and tear shows on this seat with the USB power port broken. I was also surprised to see the pantry in front devoid of the usual snacks and drinks throughout the 13-hr flight. Something else that has been complained about frequently is why they do not have the headset and inflight entertainment system ready for use when you board instead of almost an hour after takeoff. It makes a lot of difference especially when the flight was delayed for an hour. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I hope to see better business class service when I fly MH to London again in September.

These seats (row 9) are noisy. They are more than bothersome. Galley area and toilet combined mean there is constant traffic of people and trolleys that bash into your seat. Don't sit here on a night flight if you want to sleep.

While row 42 seats have an almost unlimited amount of legroom, I found 42H and 42K to be terrible in terms of comfort and ability to rest/sleep. As stated, the seats have traytables in the armrests, and thus are slightly less wide than regular seats. But the real problem is noise and light from the galley, which is directly to the side. This really impacts your ability to sleep and rest. In addition, activity in the first class galley, which is directly in front of the row, separated only by a curtain, also causes noise and disruption. I found the seats uncomfortable, the light and noise difficult to avoid, and the immovable armrests a negative. On this particular flight, the load in economy was light and most everyone else was lying down across two or three seats, while I could not. I recommend avoiding these seats, if possible. They should not be considered preferred, except for legroom.

This seat has way less leg room than the seat in front. If you are 6' tall your knees will be constantly hitting the seat seat in front. Bad seat.

All window seats in the upper deck economy are great! due to the curvature of the plane there is a large, private luggage compartment with a lid next to the window, which adds some 25cm (!!) extra elbow space. There is still plenty of extra shoulder space that makes it much easier to sleep.

32H and 32K do not have USB power; this is only available from the back of the seat in front of you. These are excellent seats with your own space, but the row to the left is reserved for carry-cots, so there may be babies in the seats next to you.

This is hands down the best economy seat I have ever had the pleasure to sit in. My husband and I sat in 32 H&K. This is front row in the upstairs economy and not easy to book. As a door seat I was worried about temperature but it was fine and legroom was terrific! Nice little armrest by the window and I had plenty room to get myself comfortable and organised for our 13 hour flight from LHR to KUL. Crew seat in front and easy to to peer into business class but for once didnt feel too jealous!

The service was very poor. I am talking about 380 business class here. absolute garbage. The steward was like trying to finish off everything and go to sleep. She didn't even bother asking for anything; she threw things at us for dinner and left. The worst thing was the headset. Why on earth would they not provide it before the aircraft leaves the parking bay is beyond me. This is the only airline that seems to do that. Every other airline will have the headset at the back of the seat pocket or on the side and we can use it as and when we board the flight. Simply astounding to see such things in this aircraft. The drinks/magazines/food all below average.

Every seat has a storage space(drawer) at the back of the seat for the passenger behind. As row 6 & 9 are bulkhead, there is no place for you to keep your phones etc. (except A & K where there is a storage next to(below) the window. Also passenger tends to cross at 9 to get to toilets on the other side Row 17 is next to door 3, may get serious vibration noise if the rubber seal is loose and air leaks.

The Upper Deck seats on the MH A380 is very comfortable and spacious. It has double storage for hand luggage (overhead cabins) as well as the window panel compartments which can fit a huge coat, newspapers and a small handbag/man-bag. Previously planned for a Premium Economy class, it now serves the Economy Class.

Seat 74a offers loads of leg room. However the tray table is not rigid enough making the whole tray slope to the left hand side slope - bothersome when eating during turbulance (always during first meal - dont let go of your wine!). Distance from seat to window is large meaning several pillows are required to bridge the gap. Proximity to the galley also introduces draughts - i was freezing on my return flight. All in all this seat is only a true benefit to those above 6foot tall.

Row 35 is on the upper deck, and if you are in A, B, H or K then be aware that the overhead lockers are smaller in size, so large bags will cause a problem by taking up not only your space but others as well. This is compensated in part by a side locker, just under the window. Bear in mind though, that 35K does NOT have a side locker. It is used for aircraft systems, and so may cause a problem for passengers that do not like to use "under the seat in front of you" space. Other than that, row 35 is just fine especially the 2 seaters.

The upper deck is the best economy section on the A380 by a country mile, with its small size and 'cosiness' factor. Even though MAS claim they try not to put infants up there, there probably will be some, so bear that in mind when choosing a seat row. And book your seat ASAP. They sell out/will be taken at check-in very quickly (MAS also charge these as a premium rate - about £25GBP

If you want to get some sleep, try and sit further back in this section of the plane as possible, as there will almost always be babies in the bulkheads, due to the popularity of the route. Although you then have to temper that with proximity to the galleys and toilets. Row 64 and nearby are also seemingly right above the landing gear, so if you are nervous flyer, best to avoid as it can be quite disconcerting!

Great trip on Malaysian B Class, KL to LHR, 8 Dec 2013. Very comfortable seat indeed, very good service. The aisle seat is very convenient for getting up and down, but the window seat has storage lockers right beside the seat which is very good. Even so, both seats have storage lockers under the TV in front of them so are fine. Very comforable, very much recommended.

This is a BAD seat! The galley floor is hard, therefore the noise of the F/A walking around is exacerbated. Also, this part of Aisle 9 is more forward than the outboard sections of that aisle making the angle of reflection such that one has a considerably noisier experience. You are about a meter from the lav and the flushings are loud. Finally, everyone decided to climb over me rather than go through the galley to check the opposite side lav for vacancy...don't select this seat!

Seat 9C is close to the lavatory / galley area but this did not cause too much disturbance even though the business class cabin was full. There was a disappointly small amount of local stowage around this seat, compared to the window seats that have access to side lockers. It was however comfortable and the lie-flat arrangement worked well.

Theses are business class seats on the top deck. The lavatory isnt that noisy but the chiller fans and motors in the galley make a tortuous high pitched whine in the front of the rear business class cabin. It is seriously loud - I made them turn them off after they had done the meal service (nothing to chill).
